Welcome to a GROWING organization that addresses all aspects of mental health and mental illness. Our goal is to create positive changes for all residents of Fort Bend County.

The Mental Health America Of Fort Bend County continues to educate thousands about mental illnesses as it works to reduce barriers to treatment and services. Today many residents with mental disorders and depression enjoy fulfilling, productive lives in our community.

The Mental Health America Of Fort Bend County was chartered in 1989 after a Mental Health Needs Assessment Project was initiated and conducted by a selected group of county residents, education and business leaders, and elected officials who conducted a countywide survey. Today the organization continues to provide leadership in mental health education, advocacy and service for the diverse communities of one of the fastest growing counties in the nation.

The MHAFBC continues to play a key role in responding to the needs of county residents of all ages by bringing together mental health consumers, their families, advocates, and community wide service providers to provide the most current preventive information into day care centers, schools, homes, health centers, judicial systems, corporations and businesses. Its membership, leadership and support is open to all residents.

The purpose of MHAFBC is to

  • Promote awareness about mental health in the community through community education and training
  • Represent the needs of people with mental illness
  • Coordinate collaborative coalitions
  • Coordinate depression screenings
  • Advocate to increase and improve access to mental health services
  • Coordinate educational trainings, workshops and research for consumers, family members, and professionals
  • Participate in county policy committees

The MHAFBC is one of more than 340 affiliate members of the National Mental Health Association and one of nine affiliates of the Mental Health Association in Texas. Other state affiliates are located in Abilene, Greater Dallas, Greater Houston, Beaumont & Jefferson County, Tarrant County, Greater San Antonio, and Tyler, including Texas Parents as Teachers.
